Perunoita is the Finnish plural partitive form of peruna, referring to potatoes in general. In everyday language it is used to describe an unspecified quantity of potatoes, for example in phrases like kaks kiloa perunoita or perunoita keitetynä. The term denotes the edible tubers of the species Solanum tuberosum and is central to Finnish cuisine and agriculture.

Potatoes originated in the Andes of South America and were domesticated there thousands of years ago. They were brought to Europe in the 16th century and gradually spread worldwide as a staple crop in temperate climates. Today, potatoes are grown in many regions with cool summers and well-drained soil.
