Perkolator, sometimes spelled perkolator in catalogs and non-English contexts, is a coffee brewing device that uses the percolation method to extract flavor from ground coffee. In a typical stovetop or electric unit, water is heated in a lower chamber. When it boils, the water is forced up through a vertical outlet tube and pours over a perforated basket containing coffee grounds. The brew then drips back down into the lower chamber, and the cycle repeats, brewing stronger coffee until the user stops the process or the water runs out.
