Perinealkroppen, also known as perineal bodies, are small fibromuscular structures located in the pelvic floor. In females, the perineal body is situated in the midline between the vaginal opening and the anus. It is a key component of the urogenital diaphragm and plays a role in supporting the pelvic organs. During childbirth, the perineal body can be stretched and may be involved in tears. In males, a similar structure exists in the midline between the scrotum and the anus, contributing to the integrity of the pelvic floor.
The perineal body is composed of dense connective tissue, muscle fibers from the bulbocavernosus and superficial
