It covers all modes, including rail, bus, air, maritime, and urban mobility, and encompasses both planned information and real-time updates.

Static information includes schedules, routes, fares, service advisories, accessibility notes, and station or stop maps. Dynamic information includes real-time vehicle locations, delays, platform or gate changes, occupancy levels, and notification of disruptions. Information is disseminated through displays (departure boards, platform screens), public address systems, printed notices, websites, mobile apps, SMS, digital kiosks, and social channels.

Standards and data formats such as GTFS and GTFS-realtime, and the European SIRI standard, facilitate interoperability between operators and third-party apps. Data is sourced from operators, transit authorities, and monitoring systems; quality and timeliness are critical for reliability.

Accessibility and privacy considerations shape passenger information design, including multi-language support, high-contrast displays, audio options, and clear textual content, while data privacy policies govern how traveler information is collected or used.
