paratsetamool

Paratsetamool is an alternative spelling or common misspelling of paracetamol (acetaminophen), a widely used analgesic and antipyretic. It is employed for the relief of mild to moderate pain and for reducing fever in a variety of clinical and over-the-counter contexts.

Pharmacologically, paracetamol acts primarily in the central nervous system. Its exact mechanism is not fully understood but is thought to involve inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis in the brain, modulation of descending serotonergic pathways, and other central effects rather than classic peripheral anti-inflammatory activity.

The drug is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and is metabolized in the liver through conjugation pathways; a small fraction is converted by cytochrome P450 enzymes to a reactive intermediate that is detoxified by glutathione. In overdose or when detoxification pathways are impaired, accumulation of this intermediate can cause severe hepatotoxicity. N-acetylcysteine is an effective antidote when administered promptly after overdose.

Adverse effects at therapeutic doses are uncommon but can include allergic skin reactions and, rarely, blood dyscrasias. Risk of liver injury increases with excessive dosing, chronic alcohol use, or concomitant use of enzyme-inducing drugs. Paracetamol is available over the counter in many countries and is included in numerous combination preparations. Its introduction in the late 19th and early 20th centuries led to widespread adoption because of its favorable safety profile compared with early alternatives.
