Palistusõmblus, often translated as hem stitch or blind hem stitch, is a sewing technique used to create a nearly invisible hem on garments and fabric items. Its primary purpose is to secure the hem of a fabric without the stitching being prominently visible on the right side of the material. This is achieved by carefully picking up only a few threads of the main fabric with each stitch, while the needle then passes through the folded edge of the hem allowance.

This technique is particularly favored in tailoring and for creating professional-looking finishes on delicate fabrics, as well as on trousers, skirts, and curtains. While it can be done by hand, many sewing machines are equipped with a specific "hem stitch" or "blind hem" foot and setting that automates the process, making it more efficient. The blind hem stitch creates a staggered effect on the wrong side of the fabric, with stitches appearing at intervals, while the right side shows very few, if any, visible threads. This ensures a clean and refined appearance, preserving the integrity of the fabric's design.
