Palaudutaan is a fictional coastal municipality in the archipelago of Valmara, in the northern seas. It encompasses five islets linked by causeways and a small mainland peninsula. The landscape combines rocky shorelines, spruce forests, and marshy wetlands; the climate is temperate maritime with mild winters and cool summers.

The main settlement centers on the harbor village of Palaudutaan, with a historic quay, a lighthouse, and a market square. The total land area is about 16 square kilometers and the population is a few thousand.

The first documented settlement on the shores dates to the medieval period, founded by fishermen. The community developed through timber and salt-fish trade in the 17th to 19th centuries. It was established as a separate municipality in 1859 and expanded its services in the 20th century.

Governance: Palaudutaan is governed by a nine-member municipal council elected every four years; the council designates a mayor. It operates within a regional framework, with local administration providing education, social services, and infrastructure. The official languages are Finnish and Swedish.

Economy and transport: The economy combines commercial fishing, small-scale aquaculture, tourism, and crafts. Transportation relies on a ferry network linking the islands to the mainland and to neighboring communities, supplemented by a small airstrip for light aircraft.

Culture and sites: Notable landmarks include the Palaudutaan Lighthouse, the Old Harbor, and a nature reserve along the eastern cliffs. The community hosts an annual midsummer festival featuring music, markets, and maritime heritage. Local cuisine emphasizes fish dishes, berry jams, and rye bread.
