padziernika

Padziernika is not a standard Polish word. In Polish orthography it is generally understood as a misspelling or nonstandard variant of the genitive form października, which is used for October. The term października is the correct genitive form of październik (the month October). The form padziernika does not appear in standard dictionaries and is not used in formal writing.

In practice, padziernika may arise as a typographical error, an OCR misread, or a colloquial mispronunciation that substitutes dz for ź. Correct usage depends on the grammatical case and the intended meaning. For dates and expressions of time, the standard forms are październik (nominative) and października (genitive), for example: w październiku, października 2024 roku, ostatniego października.

Orthography and pronunciation are relevant here. The letter ź in październik represents a distinct sound from dz, and removing the diacritic or replacing ź with dz changes both spelling and pronunciation. Therefore padziernika is considered incorrect in formal Polish writing. When encoding or typesetting without diacritics, one should still strive to preserve the correct form października, or use plain ASCII forms only with appropriate transliteration rules.
