overspills
Overspills, in a general context, refer to the act of something exceeding its designated or intended capacity and flowing out into surrounding areas. This concept is most commonly associated with water management systems, particularly sewage and stormwater. In urban environments, combined sewer systems are designed to carry both wastewater from homes and businesses and rainwater from streets and roofs. During heavy rainfall, the volume of water can exceed the capacity of the treatment plant or the sewer pipes, leading to an overspill. This event releases untreated or partially treated sewage and stormwater directly into rivers, lakes, or oceans, a phenomenon known as a combined sewer overflow (CSO).
Stormwater overspills can also occur independently of sewage systems, especially in areas with extensive impervious surfaces
Beyond water management, the term "overspill" can be used more broadly. For instance, in retail, an inventory
