The word combines oszlop (column) and csarnok (hall), and it is used in Hungarian-language descriptions to refer to spaces where rows of columns support a roof or upper structure, creating a covered arcade or an open, columned interior.

Typical characteristics include a regular arrangement of columns that forms aisles or bays, with arches or lintels connecting the columns. Materials commonly used are stone, brick, or marble, and the design emphasizes rhythm, light, and spatial order. Oszlopcsarnok can be an interior hall, a long colonnaded passage, or a cloister-like space surrounding a courtyard.
