ostutõend

Ostutõend is a document issued by a seller at the time of sale that proves a purchase of goods or services. In Estonia it is a common form of proof of transaction and is often referred to as a kviitung or receipt. It can be issued in paper form or as an electronic record.

A typical ostutõend includes the seller’s name and contact details, date and place of purchase, a description of the goods or services, quantity, unit price, total amount paid, and the applicable taxes, such as VAT. It may also show the receipt number, payment method, and the seller’s VAT number.

Form and accessibility: Many retailers issue ostutõend automatically at the point of sale. Electronic receipts may be sent by email or accessed via a mobile app and can sometimes be stored as a digital copy. If a purchaser needs a paper copy after the sale, some shops can provide a duplicate.

Uses and importance: An ostutõend serves as proof of purchase for returns or exchanges, warranty claims, and price protection. It is also used for personal or business accounting and, where relevant, for validating VAT input or expense deductions. While not every sale is required by law to have a physical receipt, retaining the ostutõend helps exercise consumer rights and maintain financial records.
