Osmanischer is the German adjective used to describe things related to the Ottoman Empire, the Osmanoğlu dynasty, or their culture and institutions. The term derives from Osman I (reign around 1299–1326), founder of the Osmanlı (Ottoman) dynasty, which gave its name to the empire.

The Ottoman state emerged in northwestern Anatolia and expanded across Southeastern Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. At its height it was a centralized sultanate with a multiethnic population, employing institutions such as the devshirme, the timar system, and millets. The capital moved from Bursa to Edirne and later to Constantinople (Istanbul) after 1453.

Ottoman culture and administration left a lasting architectural and artistic imprint, including distinctive mosque architecture, calligraphy, and decorative arts. The Ottoman Turkish language developed as a literary form that combined Turkish, Persian, and Arabic elements. Legal and administrative practices influenced successor states and the broader region.

From the 17th century onward the empire faced military and fiscal pressures and gradually lost territory until its dissolution after World War I. The sultanate was abolished in 1922, and the caliphate followed in 1924; the modern Republic of Turkey was proclaimed in 1923.

Today the osmanischer legacy persists in historical scholarship and in the cultural and architectural heritage across parts of the Balkans, the Levant, and North Africa. The term remains common in German-language histories of the Ottoman era.
