osakaalumäär

Osakaalumäär is a term used in Estonian-speaking contexts to denote the proportion of a quantity that is assigned to a particular component in a mixture or allocation problem. The word combines osa (part), kaal (weight), and määr (amount or measure), hinting at its use to describe the share by weight.

Definition and calculation: The osakaalumäär of a component i is the mass of that component divided by the total mass of the system: w_i = m_i / m_total. It is commonly expressed as a decimal fraction or as a percentage by multiplying by 100. When expressed as a percentage, it is often referred to as a mass percentage or weight percentage in related terminology.

Applications: The concept is used in chemistry and materials science to describe the composition of mixtures and alloys, in formulation sciences such as food or cosmetics to specify ingredient shares, and in manufacturing or logistics to allocate resources by weight. In practice, it helps compare the relative size of components within a whole.

Example: A mixture contains 900 g of component A and 100 g of component B. The osakaalumäär of A is 0.9 (or 90%), and the osakaalumäär of B is 0.1 (or 10%).
