Ortodoksialttarille, often referred to as the orthodox altar, is a sacred space within Eastern Orthodox churches. It is the holiest part of the church, representing the heavenly realm and the presence of God. The altar is typically situated in the eastern part of the church building, symbolizing the coming of Christ, who is often referred to as the "Sun of Righteousness."

The focal point of the orthodox altar is the antimensia, a silk cloth embroidered with depictions of Christ's burial and the Gospels. This cloth is consecrated by a bishop and contains a relic of a saint, signifying the continuous connection between the living church and the communion of saints. The antimensia is only spread out during the Divine Liturgy, the central worship service.

Above the antimensia stands the tabernacle, a small, ornate box where the consecrated elements of bread and wine (the Holy Gifts) are reserved for the sick or for emergency communion. The altar is further adorned with various liturgical items, including the Gospel book, the cross, and candles, all of which hold symbolic meaning in Orthodox tradition. Access to the altar area is generally restricted to clergy during services, emphasizing its sacred and set-apart nature. The iconostasis, a screen covered with icons, separates the altar from the nave, further reinforcing the distinction between the earthly and heavenly realms.
