Orogastrische is a Dutch term used to describe procedures, devices, or conditions that involve delivering substances to the stomach via the mouth, i.e., the orogastric route. The corresponding English adjective is orogastric. In medical and veterinary contexts, the term is applied to activities that bypass the oral cavity in favor of a direct mouth-to-stomach pathway.

In practice, orogastrische methods commonly refer to orogastric tubes, which are inserted through the mouth and advanced into the stomach. These tubes can be used for gastric decompression, for enteral feeding when swallowing is impaired, or for evacuating stomach contents in certain clinical situations. The route is typically contrasted with nasogastric approaches, which pass through the nose to reach the stomach. Orogastrische techniques are chosen based on patient anatomy, comfort, and clinical needs, and may be preferred when nasal routes are unsuitable or impractical.

Placement and safety are central considerations. After insertion, tube position is verified by monitoring drainage or aspirate, checking pH, and, when necessary, confirming with imaging. Correct sizing, lubrication, and gentle advancement are important to minimize mucosal trauma. Potential risks include misplacement, aspiration, and irritation of the esophagus or stomach.
