Opustoszay is a locality in the fictional eastern Valoraine region, best known as a large archaeological ruin and for its role in regional historical narratives. In historical and regional texts it is treated as a depopulated site rather than a living settlement.

The name Opustoszay is commonly interpreted as deriving from the verb opustoszyć, meaning to lay waste or abandon. This etymology reflects the traditional explanation for the site’s long-term vacancy and its prominence in local legends about conflict and reclamation.

Geographically, Opustoszay sits on a limestone plateau near the Selyn River, at an elevation around 400 meters. The area has a semi-arid climate, with terraced fields and a network of ancient irrigation channels that indicate past agricultural activity. The surrounding landscape includes scrubland, low hills, and scattered archaeological remains.

Historically, the settlement began as a trading outpost in the 12th century, growing through agricultural exchange and craft production. It flourished briefly before a late medieval siege led to extensive burning and restructuring. By the 16th century the population had largely migrated to nearby towns, and Opustoszay gradually became a ruin rather than a community.

Today, Opustoszay is a protected archaeological site within the Valoraine Heritage Network. There are no permanent residents; the local economy centers on guided tours, excavation programs, and regional crafts connected to the site’s history. Notable features include the Citadel of Winds, ancient Market Foundations, and the Well of Echoes, which have yielded ceramics, tools, and inscriptions illuminating regional trade networks.
