ophogingen
Ophogingen are civil engineering interventions that raise ground level by adding fill material to an area, often to improve flood protection, drainage or usability of land. The term is Dutch and is used in the Netherlands and other low-lying regions, where large parts of the landscape are protected from inundation by dikes and polder systems. An ophoging typically uses soil, sand, clay or dredged material, compacted in layers to achieve a stable platform at a higher elevation than the surrounding ground.
