Ophiolittisis is a rare skin condition characterized by a localized, usually painless, eruption of blisters or papules on the skin. The lesions typically occur in clusters or patches, often on the torso, arms, or legs.

The condition was first described in the medical literature in the early 20th century, and it is estimated to occur in less than 1% of the general population. The exact cause of ophiolittisis is still not well understood, but it is believed to be related to autoimmune mechanisms, similar to other forms of pustular or vesicular reactions.

The clinical presentation of ophiolittisis typically involves rupture of the blisters or papules, resulting in crusting or scabbing. The lesions may be accompanied by intense pruritus, which is often worse than the pain associated with the eruption. In some cases, ophiolittisis may be associated with other skin conditions, such as psoriasis or eczema, or systemic illnesses, like chronic kidney disease.

The diagnosis of ophiolittisis is typically made based on clinical examination and sometimes supported by skin biopsy. While the cause of ophiolittisis is still not well understood, the condition is often managed with topical corticosteroids or other immunomodulatory therapies to reduce inflammation and prevent complications. In severe cases, oral corticosteroids or other systemic medications may be necessary to control the eruption.
