The Ookeanidesse, also known as the Oceanids, are a group of nymphs in Greek mythology. They are the daughters of the primordial Titan Oceanus and his consort Tethys. As such, they represent the countless streams, springs, and bodies of water that flowed from the immense and all-encompassing river Oceanus. Each Ookeanidesse was typically associated with a specific body of water, such as a river, a lake, or a fountain, and was believed to preside over its waters.

Their number was immense, often cited as three thousand, reflecting the vastness of the sea and its tributaries. Prominent among the Ookeanidesse were figures like Metis, the mother of Athena; Europa, who was abducted by Zeus; and Doris, the mother of the Nereids. While often depicted as beautiful maidens, their divine nature meant they were more than mere spirits of water; they embodied the life-giving and nurturing aspects of water, but also its power and potential for change. They played a role in various myths, often appearing as companions to other deities or as figures connected to significant events.
