Oilsoluble refers to the property of substances that dissolve readily in oils and other nonpolar solvents, but poorly in water. It is commonly described in terms of lipophilicity or fat solubility and is the counterpart to water solubility. In quantitative terms, oilsolubility correlates with the partitioning behavior of a compound between polar and nonpolar phases, often summarized by the logP value; higher logP indicates greater affinity for oil phases.

Substances that are oilsoluble are typically nonpolar or only weakly polar. Examples include fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K; carotenoids such as beta-carotene; certain lipids and lipid-soluble dyes. In formulations, oilsoluble compounds are often delivered via oil-based vehicles, emulsions, or lipid nanoparticles to enhance solubility, stability, and bioavailability in lipid-rich environments. In the food industry, the fat solubility of nutraceuticals and pigments influences processing, storage, and absorption.

Measurement and implications: oilsolubility is commonly assessed by solubility in representative oils (for example olive oil) or by octanol–water partitioning experiments. The degree of oilsolubility affects formulation design, shelf life, and pharmacokinetics or nutritional uptake.
