Thin-film processes refer to a range of manufacturing techniques used to create thin layers of material, typically ranging from a few nanometers to several micrometers in thickness, on a substrate. These processes are fundamental to many modern technologies, including electronics, optics, and coatings. The key characteristic is the precise control over the deposition of material to form a uniform and functional film.

Other relevant thin-film processes include solution-based methods like spin coating, dip coating, and inkjet printing, where a liquid solution containing the film material is applied to the substrate and then dried or cured. The choice of thin-film process depends on factors such as the desired film material, substrate properties, film thickness, uniformity requirements, and cost considerations. These processes enable the fabrication of essential components in semiconductors, solar cells, displays, and protective coatings.
