Effectiveness depends on the chemistry of the odorants, environmental conditions, and system design. Not all odours are equally removable; sulfur- and amine-based smells can be challenging. Safety considerations include chemical exposure, VOC emissions, and potential allergenicity. Regulatory oversight may cover VOC content, labeling, and safety testing in many jurisdictions.

Evaluation methods include olfactometry and instrumental analysis to assess odour concentration and sensory impact.
