Ocieplane is a Polish adjective that describes parts of a building or a structure that have been provided with thermal insulation. The term derives from the verb ocieplać, meaning to insulate or to warm, and the noun ocieplenie, meaning insulation. In construction, ocieplane elements can refer to walls, roofs, or entire building envelopes that have been insulated to reduce heat loss and improve energy efficiency.

In practice, ocieplane constructions are commonly implemented through external insulation systems, known in Polish as ocieplenie elewacyjne or ETICS (external thermal insulation composite systems). These systems use insulating materials such as polystyrene foam (EPS), mineral wool, or polyurethane boards, and are finished with a protective render or decorative coating. Internal insulation, or ocieplenie wewnątrz, is used when exterior work is impractical or restricted by planning constraints, though it can reduce interior space and alter moisture dynamics.

The principal benefits of ocieplane buildings include reduced heat loss, lower heating costs, improved indoor comfort, and a smaller environmental footprint. Proper design addresses moisture management and condensation risks, requiring appropriate vapor barriers, breathable membranes, and detailing to prevent mold and structural damage. Good workmanship and continuous thermal continuity are important to minimize thermal bridges.

Regulatory context in Poland and the European Union emphasizes energy performance of buildings, with targets for lower U-values and efficiency improvements. Programs for termomodernizacja (thermal modernization) support upgrading older buildings to meet modern standards.
