Nyáláramlás, also known as sialorrhea, is a medical condition characterized by the excessive flow of saliva. This can manifest as drooling, where saliva escapes the mouth and flows down the chin or onto clothing. It can also occur internally, where saliva accumulates in the mouth without being effectively swallowed, leading to a feeling of fullness or a need to clear the throat.

Sialorrhea can have various causes. In infants and young children, it is often a normal developmental stage associated with teething and the development of swallowing mechanisms. However, in older children and adults, it can be a symptom of underlying neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, stroke, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Other contributing factors can include certain medications, dental issues, or conditions affecting the salivary glands themselves.

The impact of sialorrhea can range from minor social embarrassment to more significant health concerns. Excessive drooling can lead to skin irritation, maceration, and increased risk of infection around the mouth. Internally accumulated saliva can pose a risk of aspiration, where saliva enters the airways, potentially causing pneumonia. Management strategies vary depending on the cause and severity. They can include behavioral therapies, medications to reduce saliva production, or in severe cases, surgical interventions.
