Nyirokcsomókárosodás refers to damage or dysfunction of the lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are small, bean-shaped organs that are part of the lymphatic system. They filter lymph fluid, trapping and destroying foreign substances like bacteria, viruses, and cancerous cells. When lymph nodes are damaged, this filtering and immune function can be impaired.

Causes of nyirokcsomókárosodás are varied. Infections are a common culprit, leading to inflammation and swelling of the lymph nodes, often referred to as lymphadenitis. In some cases, persistent or severe infections can lead to more significant damage. Traumatic injuries, such as blunt force or penetrating wounds, can directly injure lymph nodes. Furthermore, certain medical treatments, including radiation therapy and surgery, particularly those involving the removal of lymph nodes (lymphadenectomy), can cause localized or widespread damage. Malignant diseases, such as lymphoma and metastatic cancer, can infiltrate and damage lymph nodes from within, disrupting their normal structure and function. Autoimmune diseases can also trigger an immune response that attacks and damages lymph node tissue.

Symptoms of nyirokcsomókárosodás depend on the underlying cause and the extent of the damage. Swelling, tenderness, and pain in the affected lymph nodes are common. If the damage is severe, it can lead to lymphedema, which is swelling in the limbs or other parts of the body due to impaired lymphatic drainage. In cases of infection, fever and chills may be present. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination, imaging studies like ultrasound or CT scans, and sometimes a biopsy of the lymph node to determine the cause of the damage. Treatment strategies vary widely, addressing the underlying condition, managing symptoms, and aiming to restore lymphatic function where possible.
