Notch parameters are a set of values used to define the characteristics of a notch filter. A notch filter, also known as a band-stop filter, is an electronic filter that allows frequencies other than a specific narrow band to pass through, while attenuating the frequencies within that specific band. The notch parameters are crucial for determining the filter's effectiveness in removing unwanted frequencies.

The primary notch parameter is the center frequency, often denoted as f0. This parameter specifies the exact frequency at which the filter exhibits its maximum attenuation. Any signal component at this frequency will be significantly reduced in amplitude. Another important parameter is the bandwidth, often denoted as BW or Q factor. The bandwidth defines the range of frequencies around the center frequency that are attenuated. A narrow bandwidth or high Q factor indicates a very sharp notch, affecting only a small range of frequencies, while a wider bandwidth or lower Q factor means the filter will attenuate a broader range of frequencies. The depth or attenuation of the notch is also a key parameter, indicating how much the signal at the center frequency is reduced. This is typically measured in decibels (dB) and represents the difference in amplitude between the passband and the notch. Finally, the slope of the filter, often described by its order, determines how rapidly the attenuation changes outside the notch band. Higher-order filters have steeper slopes, providing a more abrupt transition between the passband and the stopband.
