Nondolomitized refers to rock formations, typically limestones, that have not undergone dolomitization. Dolomitization is a diagenetic process where magnesium replaces some of the calcium in the original calcite (calcium carbonate) structure, forming the mineral dolomite (calcium magnesium carbonate). Therefore, a nondolomitized rock is essentially a pure limestone, composed predominantly of calcite.

The presence or absence of dolomitization can significantly impact the physical and chemical properties of a carbonate rock. Nondolomitized limestones generally have a lower porosity and permeability compared to their dolomitized counterparts. This is because the process of dolomitization often involves dissolution and reprecipitation, which can create vugs and increase pore space. Nondolomitized limestones are also more susceptible to dissolution by acidic fluids, which can lead to karst development.

In geological contexts, identifying whether a limestone has been dolomitized or not is important for understanding its formation history, its potential as a reservoir rock for hydrocarbons, and its suitability as a building material. Unaltered limestones preserve the original depositional fabric and fossil content more faithfully than dolomitized rocks. The chemical composition is also a key differentiator, with nondolomitized samples showing a high calcium carbonate content and very low magnesium carbonate content.
