The term "nonRurikid" refers to individuals or dynasties who ruled or held significant power in Eastern European territories that were historically influenced by the Rurikid dynasty, but who were not themselves descended from Rurik. The Rurikid dynasty was a Varangian dynasty founded by Rurik, traditionally believed to have been invited to rule over Slavic tribes in the late 9th century, and which subsequently established Kievan Rus' and later successor states like Novgorod and Moscow.

Following the decline or extinction of various Rurikid branches, or in regions where Rurikid influence was contested or absent, other ruling families emerged. These families often rose to prominence through military success, political maneuvering, or marriage alliances. For example, in some Polish principalities that had historical ties to Rus', rulers from dynasties other than the Rurikids might be considered "nonRurikid" in that specific context, though their lineage might be traced to other noble or princely families.
