Rurikids
The Rurikids were a dynasty of Varangian origin who ruled the East Slavic polities of Kievan Rus' and its successor states, the principalities of Novgorod, Vladimir-Suzdal, Galicia-Volhynia, and eventually the Grand Duchy of Moscow, for over 600 years. The dynasty's foundation is traditionally attributed to Rurik, a semi-legendary Varangian chieftain who, according to the Primary Chronicle, was invited to rule in Novgorod around 862 AD. His descendants, including his son Igor and grandson Sviatoslav, consolidated power and expanded the territories of Kievan Rus'.
The Rurikid reign saw the Christianization of Rus' under Vladimir the Great in 988, a pivotal event
