Nominointiryhmätekniikka, known in English as the Nominal Group Technique (NGT), is a structured process for group decision-making. It is designed to ensure that all participants have an equal opportunity to contribute ideas and that the group can reach a consensus efficiently. The technique aims to overcome common problems in group discussions, such as dominance by a few individuals, pressure to conform, and lack of focus.

The process typically involves several distinct phases. First, the group is presented with a problem or question. Second, individuals silently generate ideas in writing, without discussion. This ensures that everyone's initial thoughts are captured. Third, each participant shares one idea at a time, which is then recorded for the group to see, usually on a flip chart or whiteboard. This continues until all ideas have been shared. Fourth, the group discusses, clarifies, and elaborates on the recorded ideas, but without evaluating or criticizing them. Finally, the group votes on the ideas, usually by ranking or rating them. The idea with the highest collective score is typically selected as the group's decision.

NGT is often used in organizational settings for problem-solving, planning, and prioritizing. Its structured nature helps to elicit a wider range of ideas and promotes a more objective evaluation process compared to unstructured brainstorming sessions.
