Nivellyötön is a term used primarily in speculative design and Finnish-language technical discourse to describe a class of mechanisms and systems that operate without traditional discrete joints. The word combines nivel, meaning joint, with a negating suffix to yield "jointless." In this sense, nivellyötön refers to structures in which motion and force transmission occur through continuous or distributed deformation rather than through hinges or pins.

Conceptually, nivellyötön mechanisms rely on compliant elements, flexible bodies, and smart actuation to achieve movement. Realizations fall roughly into categories such as continuum or soft robotics, compliant mechanisms with distributed elasticity, and morphing structures driven by shape memory alloys, hydraulic or magnetic actuation.
