Nivelsärky, also known as joint pain, is a common ailment that can affect people of all ages. It refers to discomfort, inflammation, or aching sensations within one or more joints of the body. The causes of joint pain are diverse, ranging from minor injuries to chronic medical conditions.

One of the most frequent causes of nivelsärky is overuse or minor trauma to a joint, such as a sprained ankle or a strained wrist. Osteoarthritis, a degenerative condition where the cartilage cushioning the joints wears away, is another significant contributor to joint pain, particularly in weight-bearing joints like the knees and hips. Rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder, causes inflammation and damage to the joint lining, leading to pain, swelling, and stiffness.

Other potential causes include gout, a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints, and bursitis, inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion joints. Fibromyalgia, a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, can also manifest as joint discomfort.

Treatment approaches depend on the underlying cause and can include rest, ice, pain relievers, physical therapy, and in some cases, medication to manage inflammatory conditions or surgical interventions.
