Niveauudløste is a Danish term that translates to "level-triggered" in English. It describes a method of signal handling in electronics and computer systems where an interrupt or a signal remains active as long as the triggering condition is met. This is in contrast to edge-triggered systems, where the signal is only active for a brief moment when the condition changes from low to high or high to low.

In a level-triggered system, a device or component generates a signal that indicates a certain state or condition. This signal stays active, or "high," as long as that state or condition persists. A processor or other control logic monitoring this signal will respond to it as long as it is active. Once the condition that triggered the signal is no longer present, the signal returns to an inactive, or "low," state, and the response ceases.

Level-triggered interrupts are common in various hardware designs. For example, a peripheral device might signal a level-triggered interrupt to the CPU when its buffer is full. The CPU would then service the interrupt and process the data. As long as the buffer remains full, the interrupt signal would stay active, allowing the CPU to continue processing data in batches until the buffer is no longer full. This can simplify interrupt handling in certain scenarios, although it also requires careful management to avoid continuous interrupts if the condition persists for an extended period.
