Nitrozált is a term used in chemistry to describe a molecule that has undergone nitrosation, that is, the introduction of a nitroso group (-NO) into another molecule. In practice, nitrozált compounds most often form when a nitroso group is added to a heteroatom such as nitrogen or sulfur, yielding products such as N-nitrosamines (R2N-NO) from amines or S-nitrosothiols (R-S-NO) from thiols. The process usually involves nitrosating agents that generate the nitrosonium cation (NO+) from sources like nitrous acid (HNO2) or related reagents.

In organic chemistry, nitrozálás is commonly used to access nitroso derivatives for further transformations, as well as to study reaction mechanisms and intermediate species. N-nitrosamines, for example, are a well-known class of nitrosonium-adducts formed from secondary or tertiary amines under appropriate nitrosating conditions. S-nitrosothiols play a role in biological signaling and the storage or transfer of nitric oxide in various systems.

Applications and considerations. Nitrozált compounds appear in laboratory synthesis, materials science, and pharmaceutical research as intermediates or functionalized derivatives. They also arise in food chemistry, where nitrite curing agents can react with amines to form N-nitrosamines; several N-nitrosamines are investigated for carcinogenic potential. Consequently, regulatory frameworks often address nitrosation risk by controlling nitrite levels, adding inhibitors of nitrosation, or monitoring formation.

Safety and detection. Nitroso compounds can be mutagenic or carcinogenic, depending on structure. Analytical methods such as GC-MS or LC-MS are used to detect and quantify nitrosated species in research, industrial, and food contexts.
