Neurotransmittereja is a neologism used in theoretical discussions and some speculative writings to denote a proposed class of signaling molecules that combines features of classical neurotransmitters with broader neuromodulatory signals. It is not an established biochemical category in mainstream neuroscience.

In the proposed framework, neurotransmittereja would be released from presynaptic terminals in response to action potentials, producing rapid postsynaptic responses via ionotropic receptors, while also engaging metabotropic or extrasynaptic receptors to orchestrate slower, network-wide modulation of excitability and plasticity.
