Neurointervenciós refers to a subspecialty within neurology and radiology focused on the minimally invasive treatment of neurological diseases and conditions using catheter-based techniques. These procedures are performed through small incisions, typically in the groin or wrist, allowing access to blood vessels within the brain and spinal cord. Neurointervencionalists use advanced imaging guidance, such as fluoroscopy and angiography, to navigate tiny catheters to the site of the problem.

Common conditions treated with neurointervenciós include ischemic stroke, where a clot blocking blood flow to the brain is removed or dissolved. It is also used for hemorrhagic stroke, specifically to treat brain aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) that can rupture and bleed. Other applications include treating narrowings in the arteries supplying the brain (stenosis), managing nosebleeds that are difficult to control, and treating certain types of brain tumors by blocking their blood supply. The primary goal of these procedures is to restore blood flow, stop bleeding, or reduce the risk of future complications with less invasive methods compared to traditional open surgery. Recovery times are often shorter, and complications can be fewer.
