netniveau

Netniveau is a Dutch term used in information technology, systems engineering, and network management to describe the level of integration and connectivity within a network or between networks. The word combines net (network) and niveau (level). In practice, netniveau refers to the degree to which network components, systems, and organizations are able to interoperate, share data, and coordinate operations. It is often discussed in the context of enterprise architecture, telecommunications, and supply chain networks, where higher netniveau implies more standardized interfaces, stronger governance, and more reliable data exchange.

Two common perspectives exist: technical netniveau, focusing on interoperability of protocols, APIs, data formats, and security; and organizational or operational netniveau, focusing on governance, service levels, and collaboration across partners. Measures used to assess netniveau include the number of interoperable interfaces, data-sharing agreements, latency and bandwidth between critical nodes, and the presence of common standards and reference architectures.

The term is more prevalent in Dutch-language literature and business discourse and is not widely standardized in international terminology. As a conceptual label, it serves to compare different network configurations and to guide strategic decisions about investments in integration, middleware, and governance.
