Nestekaasu, or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), is a flammable fuel stored under pressure in metal cylinders. It is mainly a mixture of propane and butane, sometimes with small amounts of other light hydrocarbons. Because it liquefies under modest pressures, a relatively large amount of energy can be kept in a compact cylinder, making LPG a convenient energy source for areas without piped natural gas and for portable or remote applications.

Nestekaasun is widely used for cooking and heating in households, for outdoor grills, camping stoves, and various industrial or commercial applications such as forklifts and temporary heating. It is distributed by specialized suppliers and delivered in pressurized cylinders or bulk tanks; it is also used in some rural or off-grid gas networks where natural gas is not available.

Handling and storage require attention to safety. Cylinders should be kept upright and secured, in well-ventilated outdoor or semi-outdoor areas away from heat sources and direct sunlight. Regulators and hoses must be approved for LPG and inspected regularly; damaged equipment should not be used. When using nestekaasu indoors, ensure proper ventilation and comply with appliance and ventilation standards. The gas is heavier than air and may pool in low-lying areas if leaked; never use electrical switches or open flames to detect leaks. Leaks should be reported to the supplier or authorities, and the area should be evacuated if a strong odor or gas accumulation is detected.

Environmental and regulatory aspects reflect its status as a fossil fuel; LPG burns relatively cleanly compared with solid fuels but still emits carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Safety standards, labeling, and handling practices are governed by national regulations and international standards.
