Neoplazmn is a nonstandard spelling occasionally seen for neoplasm, a new and abnormal growth of tissue. In contemporary medical terminology, the accepted term is neoplasm (plural neoplasms). Neoplasms arise from genetic alterations that disrupt normal control of cell growth and division, and they may be benign or malignant.

Benign neoplasms are usually well circumscribed, do not invade adjacent tissues, and are often curable by surgical removal. Malignant neoplasms, or cancers, can invade neighboring structures and metastasize to distant sites via blood or lymphatic routes. The behavior of a neoplasm is influenced by its tissue of origin and its genetic mutations.

Classification commonly groups neoplasms by morphology and lineage, such as carcinomas (from epithelial cells), sarcomas (connective tissue), lymphomas (lymphoid tissue), and leukemias (blood-forming tissue). Diagnosis typically relies on imaging studies and histopathological examination of biopsy or surgical specimens, sometimes complemented by molecular testing to identify actionable mutations.

Treatment depends on type, location, and stage. Options include surgical excision, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and, increasingly, targeted therapies and immunotherapies. Because neoplasms can be benign or malignant, management strategies range from observation and removal to multimodal cancer treatment.
