The procedure involves inserting a flexible swab through the nostril and gently swabbing the back of the nasopharynx.

The collection of a nasopharyngeal swab is a relatively simple and quick process. It is often performed by healthcare professionals in clinics, hospitals, or at testing sites. The swab is then placed in a sterile container and sent to a laboratory for analysis. Various tests can be performed on the sample, including viral and bacterial cultures, PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, and antigen detection assays.
