nejednotnost

Nejednotnost is a Czech noun describing the state or quality of not being uniform or unified. It is used to characterize systems, distributions, or groups where elements differ from one another rather than forming a homogeneous whole.

Etymology: The word is formed from the negation prefix ne- and the noun jednota, meaning unity or uniformity. The term appears in scientific, technical, and everyday language to indicate lack of uniformity.

In mathematics and statistics, nejednotnost often refers to heterogeneity in data or in a model, as opposed to uniform distributions or homogeneous samples. In materials science, it describes non-uniform composition, density, or properties across a body. In geography or ecology, it can denote uneven spatial distribution of phenomena; in sociology, a lack of social cohesion or consensus can be described as nejednotnost within a group.

Quantification: There is no single universal metric for nejednotnost. Practitioners usually use measures of variability such as variance or standard deviation, and in some contexts indices of inequality or dispersion, like the Gini coefficient, to capture the degree of non-uniformity.
