Nahavõrke, also known as dermographism or skin writing, is a condition where the skin reacts abnormally to pressure or friction. When the skin is lightly scratched or stroked, it can develop raised, red welts that resemble writing or drawing on the skin. This phenomenon is relatively common and can occur in individuals of all ages.

The exact cause of nahavõrke is not fully understood, but it is thought to be related to an exaggerated histamine release from mast cells in the skin. When the skin is stimulated, these cells release histamine, a chemical that causes blood vessels to dilate and become more permeable, leading to the characteristic welts. In some cases, nahavõrke can be associated with other skin conditions like urticaria, but it can also occur independently.

Diagnosis of nahavõrke is typically made through a simple physical examination. A healthcare provider may use a blunt object, such as a tongue depressor, to lightly stroke the skin. If welts appear within a few minutes, the diagnosis is confirmed.

While nahavõrke is generally harmless, it can be uncomfortable and sometimes itchy. For individuals experiencing significant symptoms, treatment may involve antihistamine medications to reduce the histamine response. Avoiding tight clothing, excessive scratching, and other forms of skin irritation can also help manage the condition. In most cases, the condition is mild and does not require extensive medical intervention.
