Näkökorjaus refers to methods used to improve or restore vision. It encompasses a range of treatments aimed at correcting refractive errors such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia (age-related farsightedness). The goal of näkökorjaus is to allow individuals to see clearly without the aid of corrective lenses like glasses or contact lenses, or to significantly reduce their reliance on them.

Common forms of näkökorjaus include refractive surgery procedures. Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) are popular laser eye surgeries that reshape the cornea to correct vision. These procedures are typically performed by ophthalmologists. Another surgical option is small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE), which also uses a laser to create and remove a small lenticule from within the cornea.

For individuals with significant vision loss due to cataracts, lens replacement surgery is a prevalent form of näkökorjaus. In this procedure, the clouded natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Various types of IOLs exist, including monofocal, multifocal, and toric lenses, which can address different visual needs.

Non-surgical näkökorjaus primarily involves the use of eyeglasses and contact lenses. These remain widely used and effective methods for correcting vision by refocusing light onto the retina. Orthokeratology, a less common method, involves wearing specially designed rigid gas permeable contact lenses overnight to temporarily reshape the cornea, allowing for clear vision during the day without correction. The choice of näkökorjaus method depends on an individual's specific vision condition, eye health, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
