Méhosszehúzódásainak refers to uterine contractions experienced by a woman. These contractions are a fundamental part of the reproductive process, particularly during childbirth. The uterus, a muscular organ, contracts and relaxes to expel the fetus and placenta.

During pregnancy, women may experience Braxton Hicks contractions, often called "practice contractions." These are typically irregular, mild, and do not cause cervical dilation. They serve to prepare the uterus for labor.

As labor approaches, true uterine contractions become more regular, stronger, and more frequent. These contractions are characterized by a tightening sensation that starts in the upper part of the uterus and radiates downwards. The cervix effaces and dilates under the pressure of these contractions.

The intensity and frequency of contractions are monitored during labor to assess its progress. Medical professionals may use tools like a partograph to track these changes. Pain management techniques are often employed to help women cope with the discomfort associated with strong uterine contractions.

After childbirth, the uterus continues to contract to return to its pre-pregnancy size and to expel any remaining placental tissue. These postpartum contractions, known as afterpains, can be more noticeable in women who have had previous pregnancies.
