Mäkihyppy is a winter sport originating from Norway, where athletes ski down a steep ramp known as an inrun, launch themselves into the air from a takeoff point, and attempt to fly as far as possible. The sport is judged on both distance and style, with judges awarding points for the jumper's technique, body position, and landing.

The competition takes place on specialized hills called ski jumping hills, which are categorized by their size, such as normal hills (K90-K100) and large hills (K120 and above). There are also ski flying hills designed for even longer jumps. The size of the hill influences the potential distance of the jumps.

Inmäkihyppy, jumpers are scored by a panel of judges. Each judge awards up to 20 points. Points are deducted for technical faults, such as an unstable flight or a poor landing. The distance flown is converted into points based on a reference point on the hill, with longer jumps earning more points.

Mäkihyppy has been a part of the Winter Olympics since 1924. It is governed internationally by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The sport requires a combination of strength, balance, courage, and precise technique. Athletes typically train year-round, focusing on physical conditioning, technique refinement, and mental preparation to achieve optimal performance.
