A myelogram is a diagnostic imaging procedure used to examine the spinal cord and the spaces surrounding it, known as the subarachnoid space. It involves the injection of a contrast dye into the cerebrospinal fluid within the subarachnoid space, typically in the lower back. This contrast material then travels through the spinal canal, coating the spinal cord and nerve roots. Once the dye is introduced, a series of X-ray images or other imaging techniques such as CT scans are taken. These images allow radiologists to visualize any abnormalities or blockages that may be affecting the spinal cord.
