Munkaidsek is not a standard term in Hungarian. The correct plural of munkaidő (working time) is munkaidők. In some informal or erroneous texts, munkaidsek may appear as a variant. For the purposes of this article, munkaidsek refers to the broader concept of working time—the periods when an employee is required or expected to perform work for an employer.

Definition and scope: Working hours typically include scheduled daily or weekly hours and any time counted as work by contract or law, such as overtime, on-call time, or shift requirements. Paid breaks or meal periods may be excluded from the count of actual work time depending on jurisdiction. The concept distinguishes between standard hours and overtime, and it can be affected by part-time arrangements, flexible schedules, and remote work policies.

Regulation and practice: Working time is governed by national labor laws, collective agreements, and, at the European level, the Working Time Directive. These rules regulate aspects such as maximum average weekly hours, required rest periods, night work protections, and annual leave. Employers are generally obliged to record hours and to implement schedules in ways that comply with applicable limits and protections, including special provisions for certain groups.

Overtime and rights: Overtime refers to hours worked beyond the standard schedule and is typically subject to additional pay, time off, or both, within statutory or contractual limits.
