A multiteszter, also known as a multimeter or VOM (Volt-Ohm-Milliammeter), is a portable electronic measuring instrument that combines several measurement functions in one unit. It is a fundamental tool for anyone working with electronics, from hobbyists to professional technicians and engineers. The primary functions of a multiteszter typically include measuring voltage (both AC and DC), current (both AC and DC), and resistance. Modern digital multitesters (DMMs) also often include additional features such as continuity testing (using a buzzer to indicate a complete circuit), diode testing, capacitance measurement, and temperature measurement.

The operation of a multiteszter involves selecting the desired function and range using a dial or buttons, and then connecting the probes to the circuit or component being tested. For voltage measurements, the multiteszter is connected in parallel with the component. For current measurements, it is connected in series. Resistance is measured when the circuit is de-energized and the multiteszter is connected in parallel across the resistor. The measurement is then displayed numerically on a digital screen or on an analog dial. Accuracy and range are important considerations when choosing a multiteszter for specific applications. Safety precautions, such as ensuring the correct range is selected and avoiding contact with live circuits, are crucial when using any electrical test equipment.
