Multimerchant, or multi-merchant, refers to a payment processing and platform design pattern in which a single system serves multiple independent merchants rather than a single business. In a multimerchant setup, the platform maintains a master account and creates separate subaccounts for each merchant, allowing individualized data, settlements, and risk controls while sharing the underlying payment infrastructure.

Each subaccount typically holds its own storefront or seller profile, payout details, tax information, and reporting. Transaction routing, reconciliation, and settlement are performed per merchant, even when customers complete purchases from multiple vendors. Platforms often support features such as split payments, refunds, and dispute handling across subaccounts, enabling marketplaces to manage complex transactions while maintaining separation between merchants.

Common use cases include online marketplaces, app stores, and service platforms that host third-party sellers or providers. Multimerchant arrangements are also used by software-as-a-service marketplaces, consignment platforms, and hospitality or gig-economy platforms that require centralized payment control with vendor-specific accounting.
