Muar is a town in Johor, Malaysia, and the administrative center of Muar District. It lies on the banks of the Muar River near its mouth at the Straits of Malacca, to the west of Johor's capital, Johor Bahru. The town sits in a riverine lowland region with a tropical climate.

Historically, Muar developed as a trading post under the Johor sultanate and later expanded under British colonial administration, achieving municipal status in the late 19th century.
